Support for Persons in Need of Protection (Refugee Claimants)

• Transitional housing – Inasmuch is the only transition house for Refugee Claimants from Chilliwack and Abbotsford to the greater Vancouver area  

• Family/community feel - staff and volunteers have the opportunity to walk alongside refugee claimants, see their needs on a daily basis, and are able to provide resources in real time

• Cultural guidance and support through a full-time, on-site host couple

• We partner with other community agencies to provide school enrolment, resume writing, job search & interview skills building, mental health services and ESL programs.

• We provide budgeting, filing Canadian taxes and bank account opening supports

• Legal supports - we connect refugee claimants with Legal Aid & immigration lawyers

• General wellbeing supports through activities, workshops, potluck dinners and outings in the community

• Helping newcomers be productive with their time while they wait for legal proceedings

• Provision of physical goods needed: food, clothing, personal care products, toys, etc

• Tenancy resources and support finding next housing and provision of furniture and household supplies to set up their next home.
