April - Easter Hope in a Heavy World

As we enter April, we are reminded of the meaning of Easter, a season often associated with hope, renewal, and new life. At its core, it points to the idea that even in the midst of suffering and uncertainty, restoration is possible.
This message feels especially significant right now. We are living in a time where the world feels heavy. There are ongoing wars, conflicts, and deep uncertainty across many regions. For the people we serve, this isn’t distant news, it is personal. Many have fled these realities and remain connected to loved ones who are still in unsafe or unstable situations. Even while physically here, their minds and hearts are with their people.
In the Easter story, Jesus speaks about a kind of peace that is not dependent on circumstances. It is not based on safety, predictability, or control. Instead, it is a steady, grounding peace that can be carried even when the world around us feels unsettled.
We may not be able to change global events or the situations our residents have come from, but we can influence what they experience here.

For many, this is more than just housing, it may be the first place where life begins to feel even slightly stable again.
When we are calm, we create a sense of safety.
When we are consistent, we build trust.
When we are patient, we make room for healing.
When we are kind, we restore dignity.
These actions may seem small, but they carry meaning for those coming out of chaos.
Encouraged by the Next Generation
Recently, a group of teens from the Mennonite Education Institute volunteered with us, and their impact went far beyond the work they did. They showed up ready to serve and eager to learn, asking thoughtful questions and engaging with genuine care.
In a time when it’s easy to feel discouraged, they reminded us that a generation is rising that wants to be part of the solution.
They didn’t just help clean a house, they strengthened the atmosphere of care we strive to create every day, and that gives us hope.
MEI Students pictured here bought us several items needed for our starter kits we give to residents when they move out. They also helped us complete some of our landscaping projects at our men's transition house.

This is How We Show Love in Action
"I am writing this message with a heart full of gratitude and love. When I first arrived in Canada, I had no home, no direction, and I felt completely alone. In that moment, you did not just offer me housing or services, you offered me safety, kindness, and humanity. You treated me with dignity when I felt at my lowest. You gave me hope when I was unsure about my future.Because of you, I was able to start my journey with strength. Because of you, I did not feel alone. You are not just an organization to me. You are my family. And family is not something you forget. I will always carry you in my heart, and I will always stand by you. In any way I can in the future, I will continue to support you just as you supported me at the beginning of my journey.Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for walking beside me when I needed it the most. I will never forget what you have done for me." - Former Resident (name withheld to protect client safety)
This is the impact of your support.
When someone arrives with nothing, your generosity creates a place where healing and new beginnings are possible.
You can be part of the next story.
