Faces of Our Community

It’s often the small, faithful acts of care that make the biggest difference, and this volunteer lives that out each week as she partners with us.

Carol has been a long-time volunteer with Inasmuch, regularly providing meals for refugee claimants and baking for community gatherings. While her contributions may happen behind the scenes, they play a very important role in creating comfort and connection for those we serve.

" This is a small way in which I can help relieve the burden," Carol shares reflecting on the many challenges clients face, from long days of appointments to navigating complex immigration systems and dealing with health concerns. A warm, thoughtfully prepared meal can offer a moment of rest in the midst of it all.

With the help of a little creativity (and inspiration from Pinterest), Carol has intentionally sought out recipes that reflect the diverse cultures and dietary needs of the individuals and families in our program, an extra touch that helps people feel seen and cared for.

Her heart for service has been shaped by previous volunteer experiences with the food bank and Bakerview Music Academy, where she was reminded of how fortunate many of us are to have grown up with stability and opportunity, things not always accessible to those arriving as refugees.

“I am grateful to be able to help in this way,” Carol says, “and I appreciate the incredible ministry of Inasmuch.”

We are deeply thankful for Carol and for the many ways she quietly strengthens our community through her generosity and care.

How Inasmuch is Impacting Lives “I just wanted to send you a thank you message for everything you have done for me. You are truly wonderful people with a heart full of humanity. Thank you so much for all the help you have given me. You were like older siblings to me while I was at the Men’s House. Thank you from the bottom of my heart again. I am always ready for anything or any help the Inasmuch group needs. Thank you to all the members in Inasmuch. I will always be grateful to you, and I will also come to see you all and visit you from time to time at the office. I also just want to remind you that whenever you need me at Inasmuch, I'll be ready to help. Just call me and I'll come immediately. My Islamic faith has taught me never to forget anyone's kindness, to offer help and support to everyone with love, affection, and peace, and to respect all religions, ethnicities, and cultures. Therefore, volunteering is part of my Islamic beliefs, which is why I love volunteering and want to help anyone.”  - Former Resident (name withheld to protect client safety)
